Hawaii’s Spinner Dolphins

While the Pacific Ocean is home to many different dolphin species, the one you’ll see most often in near shore Hawaiian waters are Spinner Dolphins (Stenella longirostris). These relatively small dolphins are named for their acrobatic spinning leaps. As highly social mammals, they live in large pods, resting in shallow coastal waters during the day and heading to deeper water for hunting at night. Spinner dolphins can grow to 7 feet and live for up to 20 years.
