Hawaii’s Spotted Eagle Rays

Found throughout the tropics, the spotted eagle ray is named hihimanu in Hawaiian, which translates to “elegant bird.” Growing up to 16 feet in length including its whippy tail, the spotted eagle ray “flies” around in search of small fish and crustaceans. These docile creatures can be very shy and solitary, so if you catch a glimpse of one, maintain your distance and enjoy their magnificent beauty from afar.
