Hawaii’s Humpback Whales

Humpback whales are usually spotted in Hawaii each winter from November to May. These “gentle giants” arrive from Alaskan waters to calve, nurse their young and breed. Adult humpbacks can reach 52 feet in length and weigh up to 45 tons. With their enormous size and power, they create huge splashes of water by slapping their tails, breaching headfirst and spouting water 15 feet into the air.
